“I done been through the pain and the sorrow
The struggle is nothing but love (nothing but love)
I’m a soldier, a rider, a ghetto survivor
And all the above ”
In honor of tonight’s Fat Tuesday show @ The Independent. Going to New Orleans via the Dirty Dozen Brass Band!
it has come to my attention that not everyone is well adept to Pink Floyd.
If you never got into the Grateful Dead, this is an easy one to wet your palette. Jerry is a legend in SF and being a San Franciscan not liking the Dead is kind of like being American in the US and not liking Washington. Maybe that’s a little too harsh? Anyway, here is Shakedown Street for ya. Love you SF!
“maybe you had too much too fast”
Going back to the south for this one. Hopefully you can digg it. Born Country - Alabama.
“I was born country and that’s what I’ll always be.
Like the rivers and the woodlands wild and free.
I got a hundred years of down home running through my blood.
I was born country and this country’s what I love.”
in honor of last night. they didn’t play this, but it’s awesome none the less. ‘have mercy baby’. Black Crowes - Descender. more to come on this.
My buddy Joe told me to check out The Avett Brothers so I download one of their albums from el Amazon. I’ve been quite impressed both musically and lyrically. Here is ‘Head Full of Doubt / Road Full of Promise’. Enjoy!
“There’s a darkness upon me that’s flooded in light
In the fine print they tell me what’s wrong and what’s right
And it comes in black and it comes in white
And I’m frightened by those that don’t see it
When nothing is owed or deserved or expected
And your life doesn’t change by the man that’s elected
If you’re loved by someone, you’re never rejected
Decide what to be and go be it”
A song here from seeing Eddie Vedder live in Berkely last year (thx to Smack). Hard Sun - Live. Enjoy!
“There’s a big,
a big hard sun,
beating on the big people,
in a big hard world”
